ATP is an essential factor in the healing process, and is the main source of energy of cells.   Large amounts of ATP are required to control primary functions such as the movement of vital minerals like sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium, into and out of the cells.   Injured tissues have higher electrical resistance and are deficient in ATP.

 

When a muscle or tissue experiences trauma, the passage of bio-electric current is obstructed, resulting in electrical impedance.   Electrical impedance causes a reduction in blood supply, oxygen, and nutrients to the tissue, leading to tissue spasms.   The decreased circulation causes an accumulation of metabolic waste products.   When this occurs, ATP production is reduced.   The body’s electrical impulses lack the necessary current to overcome the impedance barrier inherent in traumatized tissues, resulting in a hindrance of the body’s own ability to begin the healing process.
